What’s On? 2.5.7

What’s On? 2.5.7 is now live in the App Store. This build corrects the crashes experienced in 2.5.6 on older version of iOS and improves the scrolling after the previous changes we made. We worked with users to come up with a scrolling behavior we hope works for everyone. Update now and leave a positive review if things are working for you! If you have any issues, email support at napkinstudio.com and we would be happy to help you!

What’s On? 2.5.6 Update Issues

We are aware of an issue involving the What’s On? 2.5.6 update released earlier today. The app crashes on devices not running iOS 4.2.

We want to apologize and let our users know that we are working on a fix. The App Store submission process is rather lengthy, and it can take some time. Unfortunately, until an update is available the best way to fix this is to update your device. iOS 4.2 is very stable and offers many enhancements, bug fixes and speed boosts over older versions.

What’s On? v2.5.6

We’re going upgrade crazy. We know. That’s good for you though. Updates mean new features, improved functions and bug fixes!

The first thing you might notice in v2.56 is the location of some important items. Search is now more easily accessible through the tab bar. We moved the settings to the top of the guide. All of the same features are there, just easier to get to. This change comes in anticipation for some bigger updates at a later date.

The movies tab now has a Theaters option. Tapping it allows users to browse movies by theater. This is just another added option to ease the use of What’s On? and make it easier to find something to watch.

We’ve also improved the scrolling. Users of v2.55 may have noticed that their guide scrolled with ease, maybe a little too much ease. We corrected this issue by adjusting the sensitivity of swipes, scrolls and flings.

These updates set the stage for future updates and further the experience of the users. Fire up the App Store on your devices, update and let us know what you think!

What’s On? HD and 2.0x Upgrades

We’re constantly improving What’s On? and we think the current version is by far the best that’s ever been released. There are some users who have not yet upgraded to What’s On? 2.5, and they are missing out on the great things we improved and added. Supporting users on older versions slows the rate we can add new cool things to the latest versions, and we’ll soon begin nudging those users to update to the latest version. On 1/1/2011 we’ll be discontinuing service for the older versions. This allows us to introduce new things in What’s On? like revamped favorites, better search and push reminders for shows!

If you’re confused about why to upgrade or the upgrade process, scroll to the section that fits you best.

What’s On? HD

What’s On? HD was released last year to support the awesome screen size of the iPad. This meant users who used What’s On? on their iPhone or iPod Touch had to download and install a different app for their iPad. Apple has since introduced support to combine those apps into one easy to download app. In order to combine, we removed the iPad only version of What’s On? (What’s On? HD) and combined it with the regular What’s On? This means if you want to use What’s On? on any Apple device (iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad) you can easily search for What’s On? and download that app. On January 1, 2010, What’s On? HD will no longer list channels, and all functionality will switch to What’s On?. This combined version retains all functionality and your settings, channels and favorites will be saved. It’s important for our users to switch to What’s On?, as that is the way to continue service and receive feature and bug updates.

What’s On? 2.0x (Before October 2010)

The current version of What’s On? offers more features than ever while still being easy and intuitive to use. To keep adding new things to What’s On? we have to cut ties with the older versions.

What’s On? 2.0x will no longer be supported after January 1, 2010. This means users will not be able to browse their listings, see favorites or any other functionality with the older versions. Upgrading to the latest version (version 2.56) will ensure service continues. Most importantly, your Settings, Favorites, channel lists and more will be saved when you update. We understand that some users aren’t partial to change but the latest version adds functionality while retaining ease of use. Additionally, we’ve fixed hundreds of bugs since the 2.0x releases. The upgrade also sets the path for future plans to integrate more features that users have requested. Supporting older versions prevents us from adding features and improving the application.

To download What’s On? just follow this link to the app store and install the application.

What version do I have?

Users that need to upgrade will see prompts in the application urging them to upgrade. In addition, What’s On? HD users launch the application with an icon labeled “What’s On? HD” Users can also see their version number by tapping More and selecting About.

What’s On? Goes Universal With v2.55

Great news! All the iPad only features can now be found in the iPhone version of What’s On?! In addition, we’ve added an HD Only filter to the list of ways to view certain content in your guide.

We made minor changes to the way advertisements appear. They no longer “jump” on the screen. That means no more accidental clicks! We also fixed some minor bugs and crash issues. Channel lists for many providers have improved as well.

There are no longer different versions of What’s On? available for the iPad and iPhone. One download in iTunes will install the application on both devices.

If you’re using What’s On? HD, just download the new universal What’s On? The new application should automatically import all of your settings, favorites list and channel lists.
After you’ve verified that your settings are correct, you can safely remove What’s On? HD.

What’s On? HD 2.5.2 Released

Last week we submitted a version of What’s On? HD that crashed on some users devices, particularly those running iOS 3.2. Unfortunately, the bug made it through Apple’s approval process. Immediately, we realized the issue and began addressing it. Less than 12 hours later we submitted an update to fix the crashing application. A week later, the update is finally approved and available for download.

We want to apologize to you and let you know that we aren’t happy this bug slipped through our testing process. We strive to release quality working products and this wasn’t one of them. In more than two years of app releases, we’ve never had something like this happen and we’ve strengthened our testing process to prevent any further issues like this one from arising in the future. Hopefully you will continue to support our product and provide feedback on features that you want to see and things we can improve on. We wouldn’t be here without our loyal users!
